Im gesetzlosen Ödland um das Dorf Ramgarh treibt der gefürchtete Bandit Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan) sein Unwesen. Polizist Thakur (Sanjeev Kumar) fasst den Schurken, der jedoch kurz darauf wieder entkommt. Kaltblütig und brutal rächt sich Gabbar an Thakur und seiner Familie.
